LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV)- The Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department is finally making changes at the I-430 I-30 interchange.
Construction plans were revealed just one week after the Bass Pro Shops opening, which is causing even more congestion along the interstate. But AHTD spokesman Danny Straessle said the plans were created long before Bass Pro moved in. "For the longest time we've been planning to increase the capacity of the southbound I430 traffic for the folks going into Saline County," Straessle added. "You may be looking at a year and a half maybe two years at the most for getting this done."
The plan is to add a second lane to the exit ramp going from southbound I430 to westbound I30. Straessle said the current Otter Creek exit will be moved about one mile east to better accommodate the Bass Pro Shops traffic. Saline County residents who work in Little Rock said the project is well overdue. "I think it's gonna be pretty bad between the time they're gonna do construction with that two years but I think widening the exit is gonna hopefully help people get home in better time," said Jeremy Baker. "It takes about 20 minutes to get to work and 40 minutes to get back so it's pretty bad."
