LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (UAMS) - Doctors, nurses and volunteers from the Department of Orthopaedics at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences will provide foot exams, along with new shoes to homeless people served by the River City Ministry in North Little Rock.
The Bryant High School Color guard is collecting socks for the event. Last year, students donated enough to give each homeless person treated at least three pairs.
This will be the sixth year that the UAMS volunteers have given the exams and offered recommendations on how to care for the feet. The exams and shoe donation are a part of a larger effort by international charity organization Soles4Souls. They are expecting to serve about 100 people.
The event was originally scheduled to take place at 6 p.m. on Thursday, December 5, but due to weather was rescheduled for Thursday, Dec. 12 at the River City Ministry, located at 1021 E. Washington Ave. in North Little Rock.
