DOVER, Ark. (KTHV) - A Pope County school bus tipped over on its side while taking children home after the wintry weather prompted Dover schools to close at noon.
"When and look out the back of the house and that's when I saw the bus on its side and I just lost all of my breath," said Kim Brock, a neighbor who allowed the children inside her home while they waited for another bus.
According to Marsha Laffoon, assistant to the superintendent of Dover School District, a bus slid on ice and tipped over on its side while driving along Linker Mountain Road.
"Conditions kind of deteriorated quicker than anybody really anticipated," said Dover Schools Superintendent Jerry Owens.
Owens said there were seven children on the bus at the time of the accident and they are all safe and no major injuries have been reported. .
Brock said she invited the children into her home to keep warm.
"I got drinks for them and a couple of them said they were hungry, made some peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and put the TV on SpongeBob and got some board games out and they actually played pretty well," said Brock
Parents were asked to pick up their children from the school because the roads were covered in ice. In fact, Laffoon told THV11 that two other buses had to turn around and head back to campus because of the conditions.
