(NEWSER) -- A once thought extinct shark has been found at a fish market in Kuwait.

Newser reports research into the region turned up 47 other specimens of smoothtooth blacktip shark.

The only specimen previously known to scientist was one brought back from Yemen to the Vienna Museum in 1902.

Sarah Laskow at Grist told Newser that this doesn't mean that the species is safe, but scientists should take a closer look before declaring a species extinct.
