    Kearney to give talk on Daisy Bates at UA

    FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) - Former President Bill Clinton's diarist is set to give a talk at the University of Arkansas on the work of civil rights activist Daisy Bates.

    Janis Kearney, who wrote a biography about Bates, is to speak at an event on Feb. 20.

    After Kearney's talk, journalist and former UA professor Roy Reed and journalism Professor Gerald Jordan will discuss the Civil Rights Movement with Kearney.

    Kearney was born to sharecroppers in the Arkansas Delta and was one of 19 children. She earned a journalism degree at UA and worked as managing editor of Bates' newspaper in Little Rock, the Arkansas State Press. She went on to become publisher and owner of the newspaper

    The event is part of Black History Month activities on the Fayetteville campus.
