The fire started inside an apartment on Kavanaugh. A 103-year-old woman lived there.
A construction worker nearby heard her screams for help, and pulled her from the smoke-filled apartment. According to Little Rock Fire Capt. Randy Hickmon, it appears the woman was trying to heat her home with a stove, and that's what started the fire.
Hickmon explains, "We try to tell everybody, you're not going to be able to heat your apartment with a cook stove."
Several more members of the construction crew also came to help other residents, carrying two more elderly women from the building.
The fire was contained to that one apartment, but several other units were damaged by smoke and water.
