Pine Bluff building all-inclusive playground for children, adults

All-inclusive playground coming to Pine Bluff

PINE BLUFF, Ark. (KTHV) - A first of its kind playground will break ground in Pine Bluff next week. It's going to be all-inclusive for all children.

"We want this to be like the flagship coming into Pine Bluff to make this like a gateway coming into our city," said Trudy Redus, Parks and Recreation Interim Director.

As a gateway to the city, the new playground will bring unity for kids who may often get separated because of their disabilities.

“Not only children with disabilities, all children will be able to play at this playground," said Redus.

Right next to the Lake Saracen splash pad, this new playground will be handicap accessible while attracting kids living autism and other disabilities.

A portion of the Saracen Landing walking trail was expanded to about eight feet to give those in wheelchairs easy access to the playground.

“We don’t have anything else like this. Granted we have 18 parks and we are doing things to make them ADA accessible, but we never had the equipment so now we'll have equipment," said Redus.

The $300,000 playground is being funded through grants.

The playground is expected to be ready for use by the end of the year
