LONOKE COUNTY, Ark. (KTHV) - Lonoke County has decided to not move forward with charges against a couple who were arrested and charged with rape and permitting child abuse.
Lonoke Co. prosecutor Chuck Graham said the county is not moving forward with the charges filed against Napoleon Teixeira, a 28-year-old registered level 2 sex offender, and his wife Shayla Teixeira, of Cabot, for now because there is not enough evidence to convict the pair, but technically the charges have not been dropped.
The Lonoke County Sheriff's Office said they received a report about the sexual abuse of a 3-year-old and 4-year-old female; the investigation led to the arrest of the Teixeiras. Napoleon was charged with three counts of rape and Shayla was charged with two counts of rape, endangering the welfare of a child, and two counts of permitting abuse of a child.
The Sheriff's Office said the incidents happened between September and November 2012.
A judge gave Napoleon a bond of $250,000 and Shayla $25,000.
