HOT SPRINGS, Ark. (KTHV) - The mother of an escaped inmate, who remains on the loose, has been arrested nearly a week after her son escaped the Garland County Detention Center.
Deputy Scott Hinojosa said 54-year-old Glenda Estell was arrested for assisting in the escape of her son, Derrick Estell. An arrest report from the Garland County Sheriff's Department states that 40 phone calls were made between Derrick and his mother from June 28, 2013-July 28, 2013. Estell escaped on July 28.
The report states, "the phone conversations between Derrick and Glenda Estell all have random mentions of the plan for Derrick to escape custody, just at various intervals between normal conversations."
The phone call Derrick made at 7:27 a.m. the day he escaped made reference to Derrick 'being back in a couple of hours' and included Derrick telling his mother that he would call her and hang up to let her know when he was picked up. Investigators are still receiving and following up on leads on the whereabouts of Derrick, who ultimately ran out of the detention center after diving through an open window on Sunday.
Anyone with information on where he may be is asked to call 911 or the GCSD's 24-hour anonymous tip line at 501-622-3674.
Authorities took 58-year-old William Harding into custody Sunday for also allegedly assisting in the escape. The getaway vehicle was recovered minutes after the escape.
