LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - The jury is to recess until 10 a.m. Thursday in the trial of a former Little Rock police officer charged with manslaughter.
Within minutes of court starting Wednesday morning, former Little Rock police officer Josh Hastings' defense attorney rested his case.
THV's Marlisa Goldsmith, who was in the courtroom, reports that attorney Bill James said, "The defense rests your honor."
Council has reviewed jury instructions and they will have the options of:
- We the jury find Hastings guilty of manslaughter.
- We the jury find Hastings guilty of negligent homicide.
- We the jury find Hastings not guilty of a homicide offense.
The judge has made it clear that self-defense is not a defense in this case.
After hearing closing arguments, the judge gave jury instructions and then deliberations began.
This is the second manslaughter trial for Hastings. He is accused of killing Bobby Moore III during a suspected robbery. He claimed self-defense, citing that he thought the teen was trying to run him over with a car. Hastings has been charged with manslaughter.
A mistrial was declared in June. At his first trial, Hastings took the stand. This time around he did not. The defense preferred to use the testimony of Josh Hastings from his first trial.
