Arkansas inmate tries to escape, gets caught in razor wire

BAXTER COUNTY, Ark. (KTHV) – An inmate from the Baxter County Jail has been charged with attempted escape after he scaled a fence around the outside recreation yard at the Detention Center.

Police said Cody Wayne Wadkins, 25, of Bakersfield, Mo., tried to jump the fence around 6:45 p.m. Friday; he had been at the jail, awaiting trail following his Feb. 28 arrest for felony fleeing in a vehicle and other crimes.

Wadkins managed to climb the chain link fence to the top but got himself tangled in a razor tire at the top. He had some cuts and injuries from the attempt and was taken to Baxter Regional Medical Center for treatment, said police.

Wadkins is now being charged additionally with criminal attempt to commit escape in the third degree, which is a class D Felony. He will be held on this charge in lieu of $100,000 bond, pending an appearance in Baxter County Circuit Court on Mar. 20.
