Prosecutors to seek death penalty in Ault slaying

POTEAU, Okla. (AP) - Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty for one of two men charged in the east Oklahoma slaying of a Fort Smith, Ark., woman.

Prosecutors announced Wednesday that they'd pursue execution for 24-year-old Johnathan Thacker.

Thacker and his brother, Elvis Thacker, are each charged with first-degree murder for the 2010 slaying of 22-year-old Briana Jane Ault of Fort Smith.

The Southwest Times Record reports ( no decision has been made yet on whether to seek execution for Elvis Thacker, who was ordered to undergo a mental evaluation.

The brothers are already serving time for convictions in Arkansas, including the stabbing of Fort Smith police officer.

Ault's body was discovered in a pond in Pocola. A police report said her throat was slashed.
