Tucker Unit inmate charged with manslaughter in prison fight death

Ark. inmate dies following assault

PINE BLUFF, Ark. (KTHV) - Manslaughter charges have been filed against an inmate at the tucker Unit prison near Pine Bluff.

The charges stem from a July 28 incident in which James Buyard, 24, broke up a fight involving John Demoret, 25, who died nearly two weeks later. 

According to an affadavit acquired by the Associated Press, Buyard punched Demoret while breaking up the fight, because he believed he would be attacked. Demoret later died from injuries sustained during the fight.

Demoret was serving a 10-year sentence for manslaughter. Buyard is serving a five-year sentence on theft and drug charges.
