LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - State Rep. Clark M. Hall and prosecutor Scott Ellington will face off in a Democratic runoff on June 12 for the party's nomination in Arkansas' 1st Congressional District.
Hall had the best-funded campaign and was able to run television ads before Tuesday's vote. But Ellington generated some name recognition for having brokered the plea agreement that freed three West Memphis men who'd been convicted of killing three Cub Scouts in 1993.
Arkansas State University economist Gary Latanich trailed Hall and Ellington.
Hall was endorsed by the Blue Dog Coalition and, during the spring, by former U.S. Rep. Marion Berry, a Democrat who held the seat 14 years. The winner faces Republican Rick Crawford in the fall.
THV's Jessica Duff was live at Ellington's campaign headquarters in Jonesboro and got his thoughts on a runoff.
"I would ask the voters to again come out in three weeks and cast your vote," says Ellington. "And let's carry this thing forward so we can move toward November."
