The Arkansas Supreme Court has agreed to hear oral arguments in the case of a professional poker player seeking exclusive rights to operate casinos in the state.
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - An Arkansas appeals court judge vying for a spot on the state Supreme Court lost his bid to a colleague who badly trailed him in fundraising and endorsements from lawmakers.
Court of Appeals Judge Raymond Abramson said Wednesday that he lost the non-partisan race to Judge Jo Hart in part because the ballot identified her as an appellate court judge. The ballot only listed Abramson's name.
Hart says there was an advantage to having the word "judge" in front of her name, but she said she didn't think it played a big role in the results.
Abramson of Holly Grove was appointed to the Court of Appeals in 2010. Hart of Mountain View was elected to the same court in 1998.
