LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - Gov. Mike Beebe says he'll vote for an ethics initiative that includes a ban on lobbyist gifts to legislators - if the proposal appears on the November ballot.

Meanwhile, former Lt. Gov. Bill Halter announced Wednesday he'll support the initiative and will join the Better Ethics Now campaign that's gathering signatures.

Beebe told reporters he'll vote for the proposed initiated act that supporters are trying to place on the ballot. A group known as Regnat Populus is trying to gather the 62,507 signatures needed by July 6 to put the proposal before voters.

The proposal would also ban corporate political contributions and double the time a legislator has to be out of office before becoming a lobbyist.

Arkansas Democratic Party chairman Will Bond also said he'll support the measure.
