LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - The Legislature has approved a budget proposal that keeps the salaries of Arkansas's elected officials unchanged in the coming year.
The Senate voted 33-0 on Wednesday in favor of a measure that keeps flat the salaries of elected officials across all three branches of state government.
The bill now heads to Gov. Mike Beebe's desk.
The bill covers the salaries of officials including the governor, attorney general, lawmakers, judges and prosecutors.
A legislative committee last week decided against providing prosecutors and judges with a 2-percent cost-of-living adjustment.
Legislative leaders say they may revisit those salary increases later in the session. They say they want to look at the budget as a whole before deciding on any cost-of-living adjustments.
Lawmakers are also weighing a proposed 2-percent raise for all state employees.
