LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - The state panel in charge of legislative redistricting has asked a federal court to dismiss an appeal of an order upholding the way an east Arkansas Senate district's lines were redrawn.
Attorney General Dustin McDaniel's office on Tuesday asked a federal court to dismiss the appeal by former state Sen. Jack Crumbly and a group of residents in his district. A three-judge panel last year rejected a lawsuit by Crumbly and the residents that claimed the Board of Apportionment violated the U.S. Constitution by lowering the number of voting-age blacks.
In Tuesday's filing, the attorney general's office said that Crumbly's attorney missed the Dec. 17 deadline to file a jurisdictional statement with the U.S. Supreme Court, and has not requested an extension with the court.
