LIST: Awesome one-tank summer road trip destinations from Little Rock

Feeling the need to hit the open road without blowing your entire vacation budget this summer?

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) -- Feeling the need to hit the open road without blowing your entire vacation budget this summer? Here's a list (in no particular order) of just a mere handful of awesome road trip destinations you can check out on one tank of gas (there and back!).

Jasper: 284-mile round trip

Jasper is one of the coolest towns in the Natural State. The picturesque downtown has tons of hiking, rock climbing, ziplining and more at places like the Horseshoe Canyon Dude Ranch.

Gilbert: 226-mile round trip

Gilbert's known as a must-stop-by destination for canoers. Nestled along the Buffalo River, its cafe and general store are fun to visit and you'll make a ton of memories with your friends and family staying in the cabins offered there.

Walnut Ridge: 224-mile round trip

Walnut Ridge is a fun little town in Lawrence County once visited by The Beatles when they were on their way to a getaway on a Missouri ranch before their final concert of the year in New York.

 

Ponca: 290-mile round trip

A town of just 173 people, according to the 2010 Census, Ponca sits in Newton County and is home to one of the most beautiful views in Arkansas: Whitaker Point.

Murfreesboro: 218-mile round trip

Hunting diamonds, fishing for trout, supreme relaxation... Just a few of the things offered in Murfreesboro.

 

Greenbrier area: 100-mile round trip

A surprise to many, the area is home to Riddle's Elephant Sanctuary. You can check it out for a day, or even spend a weekend helping care for them.

Memphis, TN: 274-mile round trip

Just under 150 miles away from Little Rock, you can see Memphis in a day trip or an entire weekend. Beale Street, Sun Records, Memphis Zoo, great BBQ, the new Bass Pro Shops -- the fun's endless here.
