20-year-old Pine Bluff native running for Jefferson County Sheriff

JEFFERSON CO., Ark. (KTHV) - A Pine Bluff native and independent candidate has thrown his name in the running for Jefferson County Sheriff.

Xavion T. Culclager, a 20-year-old, said he decided to run for sheriff because he said he has "what it takes to be the sheriff."

In a press release, Culclager said he has several years of leadership experience as well as working for the Arkansas Department of Correction and the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office Detention Center. Culclager also graduated from the Arkansas Department of Correction Training Academy.

He said he is not a politician and he is not running for sheriff "for the title or some self-serving reason."

"I understand the enormous responsibility of the office of the sheriff and I am willing to take on the responsibility," Culclager said.

Culclager wants to see the sheriff's office not only grow, but to provide public safety to citizens in a county often times known for its increased crime rate.

"I have a vision for the Jefferson County Sheriff and for Jefferson County," he said.

The candidate is an associate minister at the Pine Hill Missionary Baptist Church and a graduate of Penn Foster High School.
