40th annual Riverfest expected to be better than ever

Riverfest kicks off tomorrow, what you should expect at this year's festival

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) -- This year marks the 40th anniversary of Riverfest and there are a lot of new elements people can expect.

Riverfest Director, Deanna Korte, said this year will be different than ever before. They are hoping to attract new people.

“You’re gonna be able to partake in all of our great festival food, ride the rides, and see the vendors,” she said. “We have a lot of interactive exhibits on site and great music.”

She said she expects a different demographic to attend the event; mostly people ages 18-50. That is mostly because of the music that will be on the Riverfest Stage.

“Getting the music more current is definitely drawing people in from all over the country,” said Korte. “We have sold tickets to people in over 28 states.”

One vendor has been coming to Riverfest for over 16 years. He agrees that it is the music that could make this year bigger than ever before.

“We’re looking forward to the lineup this year because they have some pretty solid headliners for the event,” he said.

But for all these people coming out to Riverfest, one big question lingers; what happens if pours?

“If it rains we keep our volunteers in place, but if it is severe weather, we will put a delay on stages until the weather passes,” said Korte. “We also have evacuation areas in the case of any tornadic weather.”

Rain or shine, organizers are sure this 40 year anniversary will be the best yet.

“People are very receptive to it and, you know, it’s like with anything, you have to change to stay relevant and that’s exactly what we are trying to do,” said Korte.
