After shooting, North Little Rock High to increase security at football games

NLRHS amping up security at football games

NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) – The North Little Rock School District released a list of protocols Monday for students to follow at upcoming football games.

This comes after North Little Rock police said a shooting took place near the west parking lot of the stadium last Friday. One juvenile was injured during that shooting.

Sergeant Brian Dedrick said it's unclear if the shooting was related to the school or not. However, both the school and police are taking extra precautions to ensure this does not happen again.

"We want kids to feel, we want parents to feel safe. That's why we're going to have plenty of officers there," Dedrick said.

He said more officers will be present for the rest of the season, along with a police tower in the parking lot. According to Dedrick, multiple officers responded to the scene Friday.

"While they were in route out there to the parking lot they heard numerous rounds being shot," he said.

Police also said they found multiple shell casings on 22nd and Willow streets off of campus grounds.

Sandy Williams, Coordinator of School Safety, said the school is taking this incident very seriously.

“Safety is a priority for our school district, unfortunately that incident was an incident that occurred outside our school,” Williams said.

The protocols the district released include rules against loitering in crowded areas for students. Middle school students will also need to be accompanied by an adult.

"You're either going to have to be in the game or not in. So, we're not going allow people to stand around and talk on school grounds," Dedrick said.

The school hopes the protocols and more officers will provide a sense of security for football fans.

"North Little Rock has always been a safe school district. Safety is a priority for our school district," Williams said.

Police said the juvenile that was injured was not a student at North Little Rock High School. They also said the protocols will be taken very seriously at Friday’s game.
