LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - Out like a lion, but in like a lamb!
The Broadway Bridge quietly opened to traffic on a calm Wednesday night.
What started as a failed attempt to initially implode the 93-year-old bridge, has now turned into the construction finishing almost a month earlier than expected. The old bridge went out swinging, but by the looks of it, the new bridge will be just as powerful albeit a little more quiet.
Currently, only north-south traffic is allowed on the bridge.
Massman Construction will continue their work, completing the tie-in of the southbound off-ramp that will connect with Cantrell Road, also known as Highway 10.
The 16-foot shared use path will also not be open for several weeks until the ramps are complete.
While the quiet opening won't produce as many memes as the implosion did, we're sure the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department is happy the sun will soon set on the construction of the new Broadway Bridge.
