Ark. farmers expected to grow more cotton as prices rise

Number of Ark. cotton acres expected to grow as cotton prices rise

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) -- Big bucks in store this year for Arkansas' cotton farmers as the cotton acres are expected to grow.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture expects Arkansas farmers to plant 500,000 acres of cotton. That's up from 375,000 acres last year.

Arkansas is in the top 5 in the nation for cotton production. Cotton consumption is up worldwide, but prices for other commodities are poor.

Cotton prices are about 75 cents a pound. This is up from 56 cents last year.
