LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - For many, getting a chance to play on a season of Survivor is a dream come true. That dream came true for Cole Medders, a Little Rock native and Little Rock Christian Academy graduate, who compete in the 35th season of the show.
Medders is one of 18 competitors this season vying for the $1 million prize. And though the season has already been filmed, Medders won't know the results until the final episode of the season.
In the meantime, he spends his time living out of Toyota Prius. One look at the tall and muscular Medders will have you guessing how exactly he can live in such a small car.
But with a sleeping mat and few blankets, Medders showed us how easily he can make his Prius into a fairly comfortable bed.
The adventurous rock climber and wilderness therapist said he loves the freedom living out of his car gives him.
"By living in my car, I don't have any expenses or responsibilities," he said. "There's nothing holding me back."
And that sense of care-free adventure and wandering spirit landed him a spot on the ultimate reality show. But that opportunity came knocking, of all places, inside a Chipotle in Hollywood.
"[The producer] came up to me and asked me if I wanted to be on the show and I said yes," Medders explained.
From camping to climbing to mountaineering, this natural outdoorsman felt more than ready to take on the challenge to compete for the title of Sole Survivor.
"It's the real deal," Medders said. "You have an allotment of food, just rice, and past that it's up to you to figure it out."
He said that the experience of playing Survivor was one of the best moments of his life. If he wins the $1 million prize, he said he's going to upgrade his living quarters. He would also donate some of the money to help maintain national parks in America.
Survivor: Heroes vs. Healers vs. Hustler airs Wednesday night at 7:00 p.m.
