LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) -- Arkansas made a name for itself over the weekend. First, with a double overtime Razorback win against TCU on Saturday, then Miss Arkansas took on the nation winning Miss America.
These wins are starting a ripple effect of good fortune to other Arkansas entities.
We are Arkansas, and now no one can pretend they don't know that after our winning weekend.
“I don't know the last time Arkansas has done that well at the beginning of a season,” said Emily Tharp, enjoying a day in the River Market, the day after the winning weekend.
Paige Nevels was also walking around downtown, and said, “It was a total shocker. I was surprised because we don't usually win.”
After the Razorbacks win on Saturday, Hogman's Gameday Superstore owner, Steve Jenkins, said they see benefits of a strong start to the season.
“Oh, I would say Arkansas had a very good weekend,” said Jenkins. “All our stores are calling saying 'we need more goods.’”
Jenkins says wins, on average, cash in a 30 percent spike in sales.
“It changes attitudes and it changes the way we have to staff and fill the stores,” said Jenkins.
From first downs to ball gowns…
“It's so surreal to think just a couple weeks ago she was here trying on the dress and preparing,” said Jalynn Ree, assistant wardrobe consultant of Buffie’s pageant store in Little Rock.
Buffie’s sees a peak of interest in girls wanting to follow in the same stilettos as our new Miss America Savvy Shields.
“We just got a new black velvet Sherri Hill dress, and people have been saying 'Oh that looks like Savvy's, I want to have that one,’” said Ree.
Don't rule out Hog fans' “passion for fashion” after their win, jumping all over the latest duck hunting Razorback shirt.
“Of course duck hunting and Razorbacks, two of the hot ticket items this year, so all the young men and even old guys like this garment,” said Jenkins.
So, to all the nay-sayers out there, who claim they don't know where Arkansas is on a map, you know exactly where we are now.
“Even though you're from a small area big things can happen from there,” said Nevels.
“We play football, and we are winning Miss America,” said Tharp.
Due to Savvy Shield's Miss America win in a Sherri Hill dress, Buffie's is having a Sherri Hill trunk show at their store on November 19 – 27.
