Arkansas agency seeks environmental award nominations

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - The Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality is accepting entries for its annual Environmental Stewardship Award.

The award recognizes citizens or organizations for their efforts to protect and enhance the state's environment. Nomination packets must be postmarked by March 13 in order to be considered for the award. The award will be presented at the Arkansas Pollution Control and Ecology Commission's meeting in April.

The award - dubbed the "ENVY Award" - was established in 2005 to honor a major contribution by an individual or organization involving environmental stewardship activities in Arkansas.

Last year Pratt and Whitney's Springdale jet manufacturing plant won the award. Previous winners include the Turner Bend Store in Franklin County, Dassault Falcon Jet's Little Rock facility, Jonesboro's Frito-Lay, McKee Foods Corporation of Gentry and Little Rock Wastewater.
