Arkansas doctor ready to sign medical marijuana applications

New Arkansas company working to help people get signed up for medical marijuana

BENTON, Ark. (KTHV) — A newly formed Arkansas company, A Medicinal Purpose, wants to help Arkansans get signed up for medical marijuana cards. They hope an event this weekend will get the ball rolling for the drug in Arkansas.

Do you have one of the qualifying illnesses it takes to get medical marijuana? If that answer is yes, do you have a doctors signature for your medical marijuana card? For some, that part is harder to come by.

Dr. Ivy McGee with A Medicinal Purpose said she hopes to help people on Nov. 4 at the Holiday Inn off Alcoa Road in Benton.

“We're going to be accepting patients who are going to be bringing their medical records for us to review to see if they qualify under the new medical cannabis act to see if they qualify for medical marijuana,” she said.

You'll need to bring your Arkansas driver’s license, your up to date medical records, a downloaded application printed off for Dr. McGee to sign and $150 to the meeting. Dr. McGee said if your doctor won't help you, she will.

“As far as I'm concerned, if it's going to be effective it's going to improve their quality of life and they should be able to have that option — no one has the right to tell them no they can't have something new that might actually help them,” she said.

She said she's willing to travel across the state, wherever she's needed.

“We want them to come out in big numbers so that the state of Arkansas and the ABC can see that there is a need to go ahead and get the standards in place so that the dispensaries can open,” she said.

Dr. McGee will be at the Holiday Inn from 9 a.m. to noon Nov. 4, or until the last person is helped. Dr. McGee’s signature will be good for one year.

There's about 16 other Arkansas doctors that have come forward saying they will sign for medical marijuana license cards.
