Arkansas federal prosecutor resigns

US Attorney in AR asked to resign

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) -- One of the two federal prosecutors in Arkansas is being forced to step down.

Chris Thyer is among 46 U.S. attorneys appointed by President Obama who was asked to resign by Attorney General Jeff Sessions. Thyer has been the top prosecutor for the Eastern half of the state since 2010. The Associated Press reports he stepped down last night after the calls for resignations went out from the Department of Justice.

The state's Western district currently has Kenneth Elser serving as acting U.S. attorney. He took that job when Connor Eldridge ran for the U.S. Senate last year.

The Trump Administration will likely nominate new prosecutors for both of those positions.
