Arkansas Peace Week kicks off Sept. 18-25

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - A coalition of local individuals promoting peace have announced Arkansas Peace Week for 2016. The week long list of events coincides with the United Nation's International Day of Peace on September 21 as well as the nationwide "Campaign Non-Violence Week of Actions".

The week will celebrate, "peacemaking and non-violence as means to instill justice, end war, alleviate poverty, protect planet earth and eliminate the scourge of violence in our communities."

On Sunday, September 18, Arkansas Peace Week will kick off with a mural workshop. The mural painting will take place Sunday at 11 A.M. at the West 7th Street Underpass near Thayer Street.

Arkansas Peace Week will end the following Sunday, September 25. On Saturday, the group will hold the annual Arkansas Peace Fest at Bernice Garden from 1:00-5:00 p.m. The fest is a family friendly event and will feature local musicians, food trucks, face painting as well as information promoting peace and justice.
