Arkansas teacher surprised with new car

Ashlyn Meece, a Benton teacher, will roll back to school in style with her new car thanks to a surprise car giveaway from Everett GMC.

BENTON, Ark. (KTHV) -- Most schools across the state will be back in session next week, and teachers are already getting prepared for students to return.

But one teacher in Benton will be rolling back in style thanks to a surprise car giveaway on Monday from Everett GMC.

Ashlyn Meece teaches 6th grade math at Benton Middle School. She’s had her current car for 17 years, so she was very excited that her name was picked out of all the teachers to win a brand-new GMC Terrain.

“My husband and I were actually talking this summer about possibly buying a new car, but he's in medical school and I'm a teacher so it was going to be kind of tight on our budget so hello, prayers answered,” said Meece.

Susie Everett of Everett GMC is an alumnus of the Benton School District and says she feels a special connection to the teachers and staff.

“I’m a huge fan of teachers because they are what's creating our future and I believe in them. I was a part of the school system as a school nurse and I see what they do and I see their commitment,” said Everett.

Everett also gave the staff t-shirts with the motto "Teach like a Pro,” encouraging them to do their best this school year.
