Police: Man called son-in-law before murder-suicide

SWIFTON, Ark. (KTHV) – The Jackson County Sheriff's Office is investigating a murder-suicide that happened in Swifton.

Sheriff David Lucas said deputies received a 911 call in the early afternoon on Sunday from a man who said he had just received a phone call from his father-in-law, 78-year-old Gayland McCall, saying that McCall had just shot his wife, 79-year-old Mary C. McCall, and that he has going to shoot himself.

When deputies got to the home, Lucas said, they found both McCall's in the kitchen with gunshot wounds to the head. He said a single shot, 12 gauge shotgun was recovered at the scene.

The bodies have been sent to the State Medical Examiner's Office for autopsies.
