Baxter Co. inmate escapes work detail, active search in progress

BAXTER CO., Ark. (KTHV) - The Baxter County Sheriff's Office is searching for a jail inmate that has escaped from work detail in Mountain Home.

49-year-old Jimmy Leon Bohannan was working at the Mountain Home Food Basket when he went missing. Deputies noticed Bohannan was missing around 1:05 p.m. Friday afternoon, finding his black and white uniform in a dumpster right outside the store.

Deputies are searching for him alongside a helicopter, Arkansas State Police, Mountain Home police, and a K-9 tracking team from the Arkansas Department of Corrections.

Bohannan is described as weighing 205 pounds and standing at 6 feet tall. He has short brown hair and police are unsure what he may be wearing.

He was put in the Baxter County Jail on January 13 for shoplifting, failure to appear, burglary, theft of property, as well as other charges.

Police do not consider him armed and dangerous.
