Benton city council raises employee pay

BENTON, Ark. (KTHV) – On Friday, the Benton City Council unanimously passed an ordinance to raise the salary for non-elected city employees.

Employees will now see a 4.1 percent increase in their paycheck.

This comes after initial meetings in April and May, when council members decided they were financially secure enough to support the pay increase.

Benton Mayor, David Mattingly, said the feedback from this ordinance has been positive.

"Cost of living every year goes up somewhere between 1.9 and 2 percent. If you go a couple years without a raise, you fall behind. Basically it keeps you even for '13 and '14," said Mattingly.

The new raise will take effect immediately, and city employees can expect to see the increase in their next paycheck.
