SALINE COUNTY, Ark. (KTHV) – According to the Saline County Sheriff’s Office, the body of a missing kayaker was recovered on Monday.
Deputies were dispatched to Lake Winona on Sunday afternoon for a possible drowning. Officials say it appeared that several kayakers were in the area of the spillway when one of them got into trouble.
The other kayakers tried to help, but the high water made it impossible.
Fire department personnel, Grant County Swift Water Rescue, Game and Fish and Arkansas State Police also responded to the scene. After several hours, the kayakers who attempted to help their friend were rescued. Responders remained on the scene overnight, but the fast running water made it impossible to reach the location where the kayaker was last seen. On Monday, the body was recovered by rescue workers.
The name of the kayaker has not been released at this time. Stay with THV11 and thv11.com for more information as it becomes available.
