Bye-bye boarding. Hello luxury pet resorts!

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - For dog lovers, nothing is too good for our four-legged friends. In fact, millions are spent each year on boarding and grooming our dogs and local pet "resorts" are cashing in.

The Bark Bus is just one of the many amenities at Canine Country Club, a pet boarding facility located off Highway 10 in Little Rock.

“We are not a traditional boarding facility. We are more of what I like to call unconventional,” said Anita Sedberry, owner of Canine Country Club.

Sitting on four-and-a-half acres, the facility offers supervised off-leash play, an in-ground pool and training.

“If dogs come here for boarding or day care, they have to go through a temperament test. Then they are going to be sized up and put into the appropriate play group and that's where they are going to play,” said Sedberry. “We have training, we have a groomer that comes in once a week; we do it all.”

Nestled in the Riverdale area of Little Rock, Hounds Lounge Pet Resort and Spa celebrated a year in business in July. It's the only boarding facility in the city staffed 24/7.

“We knew there was a demand in the Heights/Hillcrest/Riverdale area and we knew that we would do well, but we had no idea the outreach that pet parents needed for these types of services,” said Mandy Marshall, owner of Hounds Lounge Pet Resort and Spa.

Hounds Lounge offers services including off-leash doggie day care, luxury "hotel" suites and professional grooming.

“Maybe a blueberry facial or pedicure treatment, we can totally get that taken care of as well,” said Marshall.

Hounds Lounge also offers five large tubs to bathe your dogs, instead of bathing them at home. The facility supplies shampoo, towels, blow-dryers and aprons.

Both facilities average about $20 a day for day care and around $40 for overnight boarding.
