Camp gets kids exposed to health care jobs

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) – In Little Rock, many kids are heading off to summer sports camps or scout camps, but there's another camp parents may also want to consider.

St. Vincent's Hospital in Little Rock is holding a health care camp.

20 students, ages 11 to 15 are spending a week exploring possible future careers in different health care fields.

Nursing director Amy Funderburk said it's never too early to give the tweens and teens ideas for the future.

"We're trying to expose them to different aspects of health care. We're trying to expose them to job opportunities they might have for technology, nursing, physical therapy…" said Funderburk.

Monday's focus is geriatric health care.

Campers got the chance to work through a set of work stations and an obstacle course to get a feel for what it's like to be an older patient.
