Carti Foundation awards scholarships to 18 cancer survivors

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) -- Arkansas' first lady, Susan Hutchinson, helped present scholarships on Wednesday to 18 survivors of pediatric cancer.

The Carti Foundation awards scholarships every year to students from across the state at the governor's mansion. Every recipient received cancer treatment at Carti.

This year marks the 20th annual ceremony.

"Conquering this hurdle that's come your way and focusing on your education and going ahead and learning, my hat's off to you. I so admire you. I don't know if I would have done that," said Susan Hutchinson.

"I get to go to school and I get to learn. I’m going to be a radiology tech, I get to take what I know and express it towards other patients. That'll make me so happy,” said Lucas Cauthren.

Over the past 20 years, the Carti Foundation has awarded more than one million dollars in scholarships.
