City of Conway considers speed limit changes

CONWAY, Ark. (KTHV) -- The Conway City Council will vote on speed limit changes on Tuesday night.

The public meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the Russell L. “Jack” Roberts District Court Building.

The speed limit proposals read as follows:

1. 20 miles per hour in the Central Business Improvement District

2. 25 miles per hour on any residential street

3. 25 miles per hour when passing a school building or school zone during school hours when children are present and outside the building unless the zone is adequately protected by a steel fence limiting access to and egress from safety crossings

4. 20 miles per hour when passing a church when such church is in session or when people are going to or leaving any church or church premises.

The proposed ordinance states that “any person violating any of these provisions shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor and upon conviction thereof shall be fined in any sum not less than $1 nor more than $25.”

The proposal states that upon an engineering and traffic investigation, the traffic engineer may determine and declare an alternate speed limit, which shall be effective when appropriate signs giving noticed are placed.
