City of Little Rock considers study to enhance Cantrell pedestrian safety

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) — Drivers in Little Rock know how busy Cantrell Road can get. Now, the city may look at how that's affecting pedestrian traffic near Coolidge Street.

Right off the stretch are restaurants and shopping centers plus apartment complexes. That’s why the city will consider approving a study which would determine whether anything needs to be done in the area to improve pedestrian safety

Public Works wants to use a transportation grant from the Arkansas Department of Transportation for the study. They chose this spot because of how busy it is with the high number of residents. The study would determine bicycle and pedestrian counts, crash information, road geometry and the amount of traffic.

Following the study, the city could decide what, if anything, needs to be done like flashing walker signals or finding ways to make crosswalks more visible to drivers.

The Little Rock Board of Directors will consider the resolution to do the study at their meeting Tuesday.
