City park to honor Maya Angelou

STAMPS, Ark. (KTHV) - The town of Stamps is dedicating a park in memory of Maya Angelou.

The late poet spent her childhood in Stamps. Angelou also used the town as a setting in many of her stories, including her autobiography "I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings."

The mayor said the town hasn't honored her before because of her unflattering portrayal of the town, but after a flood of letters and calls, he proposed this memorial.

This city council approved the park on Tuesday night.
