Community raises over $40k for 10-month-old needing liver transplant

Overwhelming response to benefit sale for Amelia Fowler

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) -- It was an overwhelming response Saturday to help one sick little girl with a rummage sale that will help pay her medical expenses.

The family of Amelia Fowler is overjoyed at the amount of people willing to help. 10-month-old Amelia Fowler was diagnosed with Biliary Atresia, a rare liver disease. Doctors recommend that she undergo a liver transplant that can cost hundreds of thousands of dollars.

The community raised about $40,000 within two months for Amelia to help cover her expenses, exceeding the families goal of $30,000. Rock City Outfitters has raised about $15,000 in t-shirt sales for the family.

“We just have no words because the community support all around one particular child, it’s just mind blowing,” said Amelia’s father, Jack Fowler.

The rummage sale at Pediatrics Plus collected proceeds that go directly to the Fowler Family. Hundreds showed up to the sale that had nearly 20,000 items. By noon, half had been sold.

Jack Fowler is hoping for approval to be Amelia’s living donor, but for now she waits on a waiting list.

“We’ve had so many people who said ‘if you’re not her living donor, we’ll give our liver.’ That would be the biggest donation, it would be someone’s liver to Amelia,” said Jack Fowler.
