Dog belonging to man killed in tornado found safe after 30 days

VILONIA, Ark. (KTHV) – Stories of pets reuniting with their families after being displaced in a tornado that ripped through parts of Arkansas in late April continue to come in from THV11 viewers.

On Tuesday, Michelle Gibson notified THV11 via Facebook of what she described as a "special" animal reunion story. She said, "Master Sgt. Dan 'Bud' Wassom II was killed in Vilonia in the April 27th tornado while shielding his 5-year-old daughter. Not only was his life taken, his family devastated, and his family's home destroyed, but they found all of their beloved pets but this one – Lizzy."

Gibson, who reportedly works with Fuzzy Hearts/Reassuring Paws Animal Rescue, said Lizzy was found outside another residence Tuesday morning - exactly one month from the tornado. She said the dog was OK when found, but is currently enduring a tick bath.

Gibson's message to THV11 read, "Master Sgt. Wassom loved this girl and the family has desperately been searching for her."

Once last week, and another time over the weekend, Gibson notified THV11 via Facebook of two other pet stories. She introduced us to "siblings" Jazz and Elliot. She said Jazz had been missing for 26 days before finding her way home, and Elliot, the cat, had been missing for 28 days before following in his dog sister's paws and finding his way home, too.
