Surge in counterfeit bills in central Arkansas

CONWAY, Ark. (KTHV) - Merchants and shoppers in Conway are being advised to check their bank accounts tonight.

A surge in counterfeit bill circulation is being reported around central Arkansas. Most recently, in Conway.

A Conway detective said most counterfeit money has been printed on office paper, while real money is printed on plant-based paper.

Some are difficult to detect because they are bleached and reprinted as larger bills.

The U.S. Secret Service is helping to investigate.
