Deal seekers trek 160 miles of yard sales

CONWAY COUNTY Ark.(KTHV) - If you're a thrifter, flea market master, or you're second-hand-savvy, you're in luck. Starting Thursday you can find miles of bargains stretching from Beebe to Fort Smith.

Maybe it's the hazy summer heat that convinces us we need to buy that entire box of action figures, or maybe it's just the thrill of a bargain. Whatever it may be, Arkansas' longest yard sale has something for everyone.

Bargain shopper Terry Dewitt has been combing the deals at this once a year event since it started. Dewitt says he looks forward to this weekend every year.

"Out here on Highway 64 Galore I don't miss a year."

Dewitt takes advantage of all 3 days he says by hitting just about every vendor along the way.

"I love them, I've got a passion for them, they're just great. You meet a lot of good people when you go to them."

This year, Dewitt says he didn't even let cataract surgery keep him down. He made sure to schedule his procedure for early in the day.

"About noon I was out of the hospital and I was back out here on these yard sales."

For grandmother Tina Allen, Bargains Galore she says is her source for all things back to school.

"I am looking for school supplies, school clothes. I've got two grand babies at home and you always get good deals."

And she also says she found a few things for herself.

"The back of my truck is really loaded."

Spending less than 20 dollars, Allen says her granddaughter's back to school wardrobe is now complete.

"We have found all kinds of backpacks. Quarter, fifty cents. We've found shoes, lots of shoes for the kids. I mean good shoes. Nikes, you name it."

Vendor Betty Dunkwu says she spends most of her time bartering with customers, but that's what makes Bargains Galore so enticing.

"It's just fun. Meeting different people."

Bargains Galore on 64 will continue on Friday and Saturday.

Organizers say just because you missed the first day of bargains there is no need to feel defeated.

There will be many more vendors setting up new merchandise each day of the sale.
