Deputies: Person shot after two men try to force way into home

GARLAND COUNTY, Ark. (KTHV) – Garland County Deputies are investigating a shooting after two men allegedly tried to force themselves into someone's home.

According to Lt. James Martin, deputies were called to a home on the 200 block of Rock Reef Road around 11:45 Saturday night. Two men apparently knocked on the door of the home, asking to use a phone because their car had broken down. Martin said when the victim went out to help them, the two men tried to force their way inside and fought against him. Shots were fired by one or both of the suspects, striking the man.

The shooting victim was in life-threatening condition and has reportedly been in surgery. Whether he has made any improvements is not currently known, but deputies have said he is in an ICU in a nearby hospital.

Martin said at this point the motive is unclear, but does not appear to be a random act.
