Downtown Little Rock blackout leaves several blocks without power

A blackout has left many building in downtown Little Rock without power, creating an eerie scene.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) — Entergy is scrambling to fix an issue that cropped up just before 9 p.m. Tuesday night. Many customers were left without power downtown, including a handful of skyscrapers.

Kerri Case said that the problem was traced to the area of the Gaines substation downtown. Crew will work their way out from there to find the issue. Entergy is not sure what is causing the outage.

Work was delayed because the downtown Entergy office was one of the businesses left without power and had to get online with backup power to call maintenance crews out.

Case wanted to address that the outage map does not reflect all of the outages.

"We know it's down," Case said. "We can't pinpoint it with the accuracy we normally do, but we know it's down and we're working out."

She said that part of the equipment down at the substation is what signals to Entergy the exact customers affected.

There is no estimated time for restoration of power, but Case said that everyone available is working on fixing the issue. More details will be updated as they are available.
