Downtown LR street shuts down for World Cup block party

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - It was do or die for team USA in Tuesday's match against Belgium. For Dugan's Pub - it was the first time they ever hosted a block party to watch the USA play in the World Cup.

Soccer fan, McKenzie Britton says, "It's nothing like I've ever seen before." Hundreds of people lined East Third Street in downtown Little Rock, cheering team USA on to victory.

Ngoni Tsemunhu explains, "The first half we came out stronger than I ever expected us to do." After regulation ended with a score zero to zero, it all came down to overtime. Belgium scored early in extra time to take a quick lead then added another goal. Team USA managed to get one goal on the board from Julian Green, but that just wasn't enough. Belgium took the 2-to-1 win sending team USA back home.

I asked fans if they were disappointed. Zach Cochran responds, "The outcome of the game was disappointing." Some fans left hastily while others simply held their head in disappointment. But in the end, the majority of fans were still proud of their home team.

Tsemunhu says, "I mean yeah, but at the same time I'm proud we got accomplished because looking at FIFA and what was said we shouldn't have made it this far. We did real good." Cochran adds, "It didn't happen this time but there's always next time."
