Former LRPD officer liable in teen's death

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) -- Former Little Rock Police Officer Josh Hastings has been found liable for the shooting death of a 15-year-old by a jury in a civil trial.

Hastings was originally charged in the 2012 shooting death of Bobby Moore III.

Moore's mother, Sylvia Perkins, brought the suit forth after a criminal trial found him not guilty.

The jury awarded Perkins $415,000 in damages.

Hastings says a car driven by Moore was moving toward him when he opened fire. Prosecutors had alleged Hastings acted recklessly when he shot Moore.

In 2014, Pulaski County Circuit Judge Wendell Griffen granted the prosecutors' request to drop charges against Josh Hastings. In a motion, the prosecution said it made the request "based on its good faith belief that it cannot obtain a conviction" against Hastings.
