Former Maumelle Band Director convicted of sexually assaulting student

MAUMELLE, Ark. (KTHV) – A jury sentenced a former Maumelle High School teacher and band director to five years in prison with a $10,000 fine, after convicting him of two counts of second-degree sexual assault of a student.

57-year-old Carl Mouton turned himself into Maumelle police back in May 2016.

According to police reports, the victim stated that she did not have a problem with the actions her teacher took because she felt “safe” with him and had “had a crush on him” the entire time. A friend of hers apparently told a parent about what was happening.

Mouton pleaded not guilty and testified in his defense; however after just over an hour, the jury returned with a guilty verdict in both counts.
